Daily Journal Pre-season Top 10 Poll —

2 09 2011

Oh hell yeah. I love predicting stuff that I have no clue about — because, well, you either look like a genius, or if you look like a dumbass, you can always blame it on the preseason. To my knowledge, it’s been a while since the Daily Journal has run a Top 10 — I know it hasn’t happened since I’ve been at the newspaper. So, when Nathan Mollat, Sports Editor, said, “oh, and give me your Top 10 Poll,” I said, “Oh hell yeah!”

Below is our combined votes … with 10 points going to No. 1, nine to No. 2, eight to No. 3 and so on and so on. When you tally things up, this is what the 2011 pre-season poll looks like.

The tally at the sports desk went something like this: Serra and Terra Nova with 19 points, Sequoia with 15, Sacred Heart Prep with 14, Jefferson with 13, Menlo and Menlo-Atherton with 8, Burlingame and Aragon with 5 and South City with 2. Also receiving votes were San Mateo and Hillsdale, which both got 1 apiece.

My Top 10 differed a bit than Nathan’s — I have Serra at 1, just because it’s Serra, although Terra Nova is going to be very good and it was tough to slate them at 2. I had Sequoia at 3 because of a couple of stand-outs on offense and put Jefferson and their defense at 4. Sacred Heart Prep was 5, Burlingame at 6, Menlo, who might have been higher had I a tad more confidence in their QB situation, was 7 and M-A is 8. Aragon is kind of a mystery to me, but I have faith in Steve Sell and put them in my Top 10 in the 9 spot. San Mateo made it at 10 after my chat with Jeff Scheller. Just missing out was El Camino.

I don’t know for sure how often we’ll be running our poll, but it’ll definitely resurface to start the regular season is about a month.
