UFC 139 — @HPPavilion

21 11 2011

UFC 139 wasn’t my first fight rodeo — I’ve been to Strikeforce events, boxing matches, etc. But my, oh my, I can’t help by feel that I probably won’t ever be able to top the sheer awesomeness of the UFC 139 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Sheer, unadulterated, awesome. There is something about the way the UFC puts together an event that feel different. Perhaps, cooler? Not sure what it is. Let’s just say, it was sick. My boy, Matthew Maniego, came along to chronicle the night visually. All these photos are his. Don’t steal. It’s bad for the soul.

Let’s talk fights. I got hooked up with a seat on media row (and actually got to say hello to my first ever editor, shout out to Dylan Kruse, now of the SF Examiner and formerly of the Daily News Group) and was able to chronicle the action. I was covering a game in San Mateo beforehand, so, by the time I shot over to the HP Pavilion, the pay per view card was just about to start. There were five fights. I figured I’d give you a look into how Julio takes notes during these things. It can get pretty hectic, so, PAY ATTENTION IN YOUR TYPEWRITING CLASSES, boys and girls. Let’s go from the Main Event (Shogun Rua vs. Dan Hendo) and work our way to fight one.

RUA VS. HENDERSON — HENDERSON WINS IN UNANIMOUS DECISION

LE VS. SILVA — SILVA WINS IN 2ND ROUND KNOCKOUT

FABER VS. BOWLES — FABER WINS IN 2ND ROUND SUBMISSION

STORY VS. KAMPMANN — KAMPMANN WINS IN SPLIT DECISION

BONNAR VS. KINGBURY — BONNAR WINS IN UNANIMOUS DECISION
